Bicoll Biotechnology (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. completes modernization of its laboratory facilities for medicinal chemistry

Shanghai, P.R. China – October 6th, 2009 – Bicoll Biotechnology (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., announced today that it has completed the modernization of its laboratory facilities for medicinal chemistry within Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai to meet increasing demand for its medicinal chemistry capacities.
At its central laboratory facility in Shanghai, Bicoll provides pre-clinical support in the area of drug discovery from natural products and medicinal chemistry.

“With the now completed remodernization we stay abreast of a continuously increasing demand for high-quality medicinal chemistry and custom synthesis. Validating hits and optimizing leads into drug candidates often represents the bottleneck of drug development programs, especially if it comes to natural product like chemistry. Today’s challenge consists of shortening the optimization process, improving quality of compound flow and project management, thus reducing overall costs. As a specialist in pre-clinical support we already expanded to nearly double the size of lab space in 2005. For Bicoll it’s a matter of course to serve its partners best and continue to deliver products in time, budget and quality,” commented Dr. Christian Haug, Chairman of Board of Directors at Bicoll Biotechnology (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.

“We recognize a growing number of requests for sophisticated synthesis technologies,” explained Dr. Martin Braun, Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry at Bicoll. “This modernization will help our experienced chemists in front-line medicinal chemistry to continue providing rapid synthesis of lead compound series for any therapeutic area. Expansion of hood space as well as a new compound storage and management system enable us to keep up with increasing demand. And the new walk-in hood will help us to handle large laboratory equipment for multi-gram scale projects. For the next years to come we will continue to adapt our facilities to our customer’s needs.”
